 Kerala is famous for its backwaters which is spread in the districts of Alleppey,Kottayam  and Kollam. Of these Alleppey is known as the Venice of the East because of its zigzag  rivers, canals & lakes.The biggest backwater body is the Vembanad Lake (about 300 sq. km  in area) which will give you a feeling of the sea with its towering waves. This lake opens  out into the Arabian Sea at Cochin port.


 Kuttanad, is another synonym for this backwater kingdom. Here you can see people staying  in islands in the middle of lakes. Cruising in House Boats, which will crisscross thru the  backwaters is cherished by one and all.
